2018年春、京都は西陣にシェア・スタジオ「Vostok(ボストーク)」を立ち上げました。 本スタジオはBASEMENT KYOTOの協力のもと、町屋をリノベーションすることで誕生した、レジデンス・スペースを併設する珍しいスペースです。 「Vostok」は1960年代前半に打ち上げられた、人類初の有人宇宙飛行に成功した宇宙船の名前に由来しています。また、ロシア語で「東」を意味し、極東の国・日本から世界へ羽ばたくアーティストの発信の場・拠点となる、という決意を込めて名付けました。 現在、西條茜(陶磁器)・笹岡由梨子(映像)・田中秀和(絵画)・水木塁(写真)・矢津吉隆(彫刻)と、それぞれ異なる媒体で活躍するアーティストが集まり、多種多様な制作現場を共有しています。 またシェアスタジオの既存の役割である「制作場所」としてだけではなく、「美術の受発信ができる場所」として国内外のアートが交わる新たなスポットを作り上げていきます。

  The spring of 2018, share studio”Vostok” was started in the Nishijin area of Kyoto.

This studio is a renovated "MACHIYA" by BASEMENT KYOTO, the traditional architecture juxtaposed with the fresh interior creates an unusual residence space. 

"Vostok" is derived from the name of the spacecraft, launched in the early 1960’s, that succeeded in becoming the first manned space flight. In Russian it means "East", and so we bring to that meaning the determination to become a base of active work from Japan, the country of the Far East, to the world. 

We are artists active in different media, such as Saijo (ceramic), Sasaoka (video), Tanaka (painting), Mizuki (photography), Yazu (sculpture) and we gather together and share a variety of art in the space. And we create the new spot that domestic and abroad arts cross as " space to receive and transmit arts", not just as the common role of share studio  "working space" .
